Concrete is one of the most affordable materials homeowners can choose to pave their driveway.
Being the cheapest option after plain gravel (usually), you can expect to pay anywhere from $3 to $18 per square foot for a standard driveway made with concrete.
Durability
Durability is one of concrete driveways’ greatest strengths. In fact, with proper care and maintenance, it’s estimated that they can last up to 75 years!
However, take note that concrete is not gonna be your strongest warrior against winter. Asphalt is usually the better option to combat the cold.
That said, if you live in areas with very harsh winters (like Connecticut) yet still want to build your driveway using concrete, make sure to “winterize” your driveway before winter comes! This process usually includes sealing (or resealing) the paver’s surface and ensuring good drainage.
Apart from “winterizing” your driveway, make sure to also use concrete-friendly deicers, so you don’t unintentionally damage your driveway during the colder months.
Maintenance
Concrete driveways are low-maintenance, not no-maintenance.
So, yup, as with all home installations, you still need to perform minimal upkeep to preserve the durability of your concrete-made driveway.
No worries, though; you won’t need to do extensive tasks to maintain concrete driveways.
Maintenance is usually as simple as cleaning your driveway regularly, sealing the concrete, buying the right ice melters, and repairing cracks immediately.
Of course, don’t forget to inspect the driveway at least once a year, too, so you can spot issues while they remain small and manageable.

Some of the most common ways to customize concrete driveways include:

- Using stamped concrete options to resemble stone

Installation Process
Installing concrete driveways is relatively simple, at least compared to other concrete-made structures.
First, of course, there are the technicalities of permits and designs. Contractors will usually handle these on your behalf.
After that, on-site construction work begins.
At (company name), we always start driveway installations by evaluating and preparing the base of the driveway. This process allows us to determine whether the subsoil is already stable enough or if an extra layer of gravel is needed for a more stable foundation.
After that, temporary housing is formed on the perimeter of the driveway. The topsoil is dug out and leveled, and after reinforcing with steel (optional), concrete is poured and then flattened.
Finishing touches, such as finishing or decorative designs, are applied, and the concrete is then prepared for curing. Once all of these steps are completed, the driveway needs to be cured for at least a week before it’s ready to use!
Friendly Advice: Avoid DIY-ing your driveway. Doing so without the proper knowledge and experience will likely leave you with a driveway that has poor drainage, fails to meet compliance standards, and cracks or deteriorates early on.
